A recurring item on this past weekend's conversational menu was the need to grow up. From 401(k)'s and Roth IRAs to how we dress and the thread count on our bedsheets. The passing of each decade (roughly) in one person's life leaves way to consideration of how we are to go from one stage of life to the other. From our teens to our twenties we consider more grown up options than we are used to, such as what am I going to do for the rest of my life, what college am I going to go to, or should I even bother going to college. For some the preceding considerations are much too difficult to deal with and can be postponed well into the next decade, for others the decision comes naturally and choices are made that set into motion a series of events that can greatly shape the rest of one's life.
The symmetry between the two ages 17 and 27 is mind boggling. As I near that next stage in my life I find the same old questions rear their ugly heads just with newer haircuts. As of currently I'm more than satisfied with holding off on making any serious decisions that can have major ramifications in my long distant future. My current maturity level affords me to meet my financial obligations, my academical pursuits, and the ability to get drunk with hot chicks who otherwise would be considered off limits. I'm happy now and who even knows if I'll be around to be happy tomorrow. "Why should I," is my response to the condescending title of this post.
